    Red Light Therapy Devices

    I use red light therapy when I see my acupuncturist for my hip pain to help reduce inflammation.  I have been wanting my own red light to continue that support at home.

    Nervous-System Support Tools

    This is one category I personally lean on the most — because most women don’t need more motivation… they need more safety and calm in their bodies.


    Some go-tos:


    • Weighted blankets-I never had success with a weighted blanket due to low back pain that I experience on and off.  However, they can be very calming for many people.  I prefer a heavier pillow or weighted stuffed animal (yes, I steal my daughter’s) on my abdomen when I sleep.  To find the right weight for a weighted blanket, use the general guideline of selecting a blanket that is about 7-12% of your body weight


    • Acupressure mats-I love my Shakti acupressure mat.  It is used for pain relief, stress reduction and improved sleep.  The stimulation from the spikes increases blood flow to the area, which can aid in muscle recovery and overall well-being.  I use mine at night while I read before bed-usually around 20 minutes (although start at a shorter duration).     • Aromatherapy rollers/diffusers/essential oils-Essential oils offer benefits such as stress relief, improved sleep, and reduced anxiety through aromatherapy. They also have potential anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that can help with skin and respiratory issues. Some oils, like peppermint and ginger, may help with nausea, and others can be used for mental clarity and focus.     • Sound machines or white-noise devices - We have a sound machine in each of the bedrooms in our home.  It has helped me drown out my snoring husband LOL.  My daughters sleep so much better with a little white noise in the background.  This is the one we love: https://amzn.to/3LLVcis  


    • Breathwork or meditation apps-These apps offer accessible, guided practices that help users manage daily anxiety, reduce negative thinking, and improve overall mood and well-being through features like guided sessions, progress tracking, and customizable environments.     If you want to start on your own, I tell clients to focus on 3-4 deep breaths before each meal.  It’s easy to remember because you know you are going to eat at least 3 times a day.  It’s also vital that we eat in a calm state to aid in digestion, so it’s a win-win! You can start with a simple 4 count inhale and 4 count exhale!

    • Probiotics-always recommend testing using the GI-Map before taking a probiotic.
